RN SR (Oncology)

Location: Roanoke, Virginia, United States; primarily remote with periodic onsite attendance required

Pay scale: $30.26–$46.55 per hour

What you will do

• Provide virtual education and counseling to patients and caregivers on diagnoses, treatment plans, medications, supportive therapies, and symptom management.
• Assess learning needs, health literacy, readiness to learn, and barriers to understanding, then create individualized education plans.
• Explain chemotherapy, immunotherapy, targeted therapies, oral oncology agents, and emerging treatment options in patient-friendly language.
• Develop and maintain patient education materials, digital content, and educational tools aligned with current clinical practice.
• Collaborate with providers, pharmacy, nursing, navigation, research, and supportive care teams to coordinate education across the care continuum.
• Lead education program standardization, evaluate outcomes, identify gaps, and mentor colleagues involved in patient education initiatives.

Requirements

• Graduate from an accredited nursing program; BSN preferred.
• Current RN license and registration with the State Board of Nursing in the practicing state.
• Current Basic Life Support certification and ongoing compliance with continuing education requirements.
• Five years of nursing experience, including at least one year in specialty care preferred.
• Ability to work independently in a remote arrangement, maintain scheduled-hour availability, and meet documentation and productivity standards.
• Must attend onsite meetings, training, departmental initiatives, and other in-person activities when requested by management.

Nice to have

• Specialty certification.
• Chemotherapy/immunotherapy provider card for infusion nursing responsibilities.
• Experience with transplant, infusion, radiation oncology, or gynecological oncology nursing.
