Scientist II, CMC Pipeline Innovation (Cell & Gene Therapy)

Location: Onsite in Somerset, New Jersey, United States. Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States.

Base pay: $110,706–$145,303 USD per year, plus performance-based bonus and/or equity for eligible roles.

What you will do

• Develop, optimize, and scale lentiviral vector downstream purification processes using chromatography and alternative separation technologies.
• Design and execute proof-of-concept, feasibility, and characterization studies for emerging manufacturing, analytical, and characterization technologies.
• Generate and analyze data related to process understanding, product quality, scalability, robustness, manufacturing efficiency, and cost.
• Coordinate cross-functional implementation of successful technologies in development and manufacturing workflows, including risk management and knowledge transfer.
• Draft and review protocols, prepare technical reports and presentations, and provide data-driven recommendations.
• Maintain innovation laboratory operations, including equipment, materials, organization, and facility requirements.

Requirements

• Ph.D. in Biology, Biomedical Engineering, Virology, Immunology, or a related field with 0–3 years of relevant experience; equivalent M.S. or B.S. qualifications with additional relevant experience considered.
• Hands-on experience with stirred-tank bioreactors, TFF, sterile filtration, and chromatography for biologics or advanced therapy products.
• Knowledge of viral vector manufacturing, gene delivery technologies, molecular biology, and related analytical methodologies.
• Experience or exposure to HPLC, UHPLC, LC-MS/MS, Raman spectroscopy, and biophysical characterization methods is desirable.
• Experience with biostatistical tools and experimental design, including JMP and GraphPad Prism.
• English required; Mandarin is a plus. U.S. work authorization is required.

Nice to have

• Experience with lentiviral vector processes and associated analytical tools.
• Familiarity with AI, machine learning, and data-driven approaches applied to bioprocess development and gene therapy manufacturing.
• Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
