TL;DR
Robotics Systems Engineer (Autonomous Vehicles): Developing, integrating, and validating autonomy features for autonomous trucks with an accent on system-level debugging, field deployment, and cross-disciplinary vehicle integration. Focus on diagnosing issues across sensors, compute, networking, controls, and software stacks, bringing up new truck platforms, and delivering safe, reliable autonomy performance in mission-critical environments.

Location: San Francisco, CA; onsite five days a week. Periodic travel to customer sites of up to 10% is required, with some schedule flexibility during deployments.

Base salary: $145,000–$180,000 per year, plus potential equity awards.

What you will do

  • Develop, integrate, test, and validate autonomy features for autonomous trucks.
  • Debug issues across sensors, compute, networking, controls, and software stacks using logs, metrics, and on-vehicle tools.
  • Lead technical execution during deployments, including bring-up plans, risk identification, requirements communication, and coordination of fixes.
  • Bring up and integrate new truck platforms, including sensor and vehicle-signal integration, calibration, and performance tuning.
  • Support customer-site field deployments and hands-on on-vehicle debugging in mission-critical environments.
  • Collaborate with hardware, operations, safety, and product teams to deliver robust and maintainable autonomy behavior.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of professional software development experience, excluding internships.
  • Strong programming skills in at least one of Python, C++, Java, or C#, with object-oriented design experience.
  • Professional robotics engineering experience with system-level ownership, integration, debugging, performance tuning, field support, or deployments.
  • Knowledge of robotics concepts and mathematics, including state estimation, Kalman filtering, localization, planning, and controls.
  • Ability to design diagnosable, testable software systems using structured logging, metrics, and fault isolation.
  • Experience with field deployment, safety-critical troubleshooting, customer-site support, or deployment rotations; familiarity with Linux, Git, CI/CD, simulation, and test harnesses.

Nice to have

  • Experience with sensor fusion, safety systems, camera pipelines, ML for perception, CAN vehicle interfaces, or calibration workflows.
