TL;DR
Facilities & Engineering Manager (GMP): Managing the operation, maintenance, and compliance of laboratory, warehouse, office, and GMP manufacturing facilities with an accent on EHS, GMP compliance, equipment readiness, and contractor oversight. Focus on leading facilities engineering teams, maintaining audit-ready documentation, managing CapEx and business continuity, and driving site safety and compliance improvements.

Location: Bristol, UK; onsite across two Bristol sites

Salary: £44,600–£71,480 per year

What you will do

  • Lead the day-to-day operation, maintenance, and compliance of two Bristol sites, including laboratories, warehouses, offices, cleanrooms, plant rooms, and GMP manufacturing suites.
  • Manage equipment, assets, calibration, inspections, preventative maintenance, records, and building fabric upkeep.
  • Oversee contractors and service providers, ensuring safe, compliant, and effective delivery of work.
  • Coordinate fire safety, emergency preparedness, incident response, access control, alarm response, and facilities on-call coverage.
  • Lead and develop the Facilities & Engineering team through objectives, coaching, workforce planning, recruitment, and succession planning.
  • Own the departmental CapEx budget and contribute to the UK facilities strategy, including future support for the Oxfordshire office.

Requirements

  • More than 5 years of experience leading facilities or engineering teams in a GMP, laboratory, or regulated environment.
  • Strong people management, communication, organisational, time management, and project management skills.
  • Practical knowledge of health and safety requirements and safe systems of work.
  • Ability to prepare audit-ready SOPs, job aids, permits, emergency plans, and other compliance documentation.
  • Experience planning and prioritising work across a 3–5 year business horizon.
  • Ability to work onsite at the Bristol facilities and participate in the facilities or security on-call rota.

Nice to have

  • IOSH or equivalent health and safety qualification, or willingness to work towards one.
  • Experience managing contractors or service agreements.
  • Awareness of sustainability, environmental controls, or ESG principles.
