What you will do
- Support the PubMed Central Production Team at the National Center for Biotechnology Information.
- Track incoming content and project progress across development and production workflows.
- Evaluate XML submissions and process online publication content using web-based tools and UNIX scripts.
- Verify source-data accuracy, data integrity, and the online presentation of articles.
- Analyze data, troubleshoot programming and content issues, and coordinate solutions with developers and other personnel.
- Communicate with publishers, authors, vendors, data providers, help desks, users, and National Library of Medicine staff.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree.
- At least two years of experience in publishing or a library science environment.
- Familiarity with online publications, especially electronic journals or books.
- Knowledge of XML and/or HTML, with the ability to work with complex and detailed information.
- Strong verbal and written communication, organizational, flexibility, and patience skills in a high-volume customer-service environment.
- Ability to conduct data analysis, communicate technical and non-technical information, and manage multiple projects.
Nice to have
- Experience managing online publication production workflows or editing journal and book content.
- Expertise with TIFF, GIF, JPEG, EPS, or PNG formats and image-creation software such as Adobe Photoshop.
- Experience with UNIX/Linux in a data-production environment.
- Knowledge of bibliographic cataloging metadata, including MARC, RDA, or ISSN Centre standards.
