Senior Platform Engineer (DataOps)

Location: Bethesda, Maryland, with onsite or remote work at NCBI

What you will do

• Develop and continuously improve an enterprise-wide DataOps platform.
• Build and maintain common platform tools and libraries.
• Evaluate and introduce new technologies and engineering practices.
• Support NCBI developers in adopting the platform.
• Provide automated solutions and compliance pipelines for federal application security regulations and standards.
• Work within an Agile environment and contribute to continuous improvement.

Requirements

• 7+ years of professional experience.
• B.S. in a STEM field or equivalent industry experience in systems engineering.
• Strong coding skills in at least one programming language, such as Python or C++.
• Professional experience with Kubernetes, containerization, and at least one major cloud platform: GCP, AWS, Azure, or equivalent.
• Experience with Apache Kafka, Google Cloud Pub/Sub, Apache Airflow, or equivalent technologies.
• Experience with data-processing applications, modern cloud-based data-processing infrastructure, and Linux command-line tools.

Nice to have

• Experience with Google Anthos, Docker, GitOps, ArgoCD, Terraform, and CI/CD or artifact-management platforms.
• Knowledge of observability, logging, secret-management, data-transfer, and streaming technologies.
• Experience with best-practice coding and architecture patterns.
• Experience working in an Agile environment.
