TL;DR

Director, Research Informatics (Benchling/Dotmatics/AI): Leading the strategy, roadmap, and operational delivery of scientific data platforms and internal software supporting the biotechnology research and development pipeline with an accent on ELN workflows, platform integrations, and compliant experimental data capture. Focus on building and growing an engineering team, making hands-on architecture decisions, integrating AI-driven experiment documentation, and managing platform migrations and vendor relationships.

Location: South San Francisco, United States; onsite

What you will do

Own the strategy, roadmap, and operational delivery of Research Informatics across Benchling, Dotmatics, internal software systems, and AI integrations.
Lead and grow the team responsible for platform support, configuration, validation, and continuous improvement across research and development functions.
Translate scientific and laboratory requirements into scalable platform solutions in partnership with scientists, lab operations, enterprise IT, and senior stakeholders.
Define technical direction and make hands-on software architecture, configuration, and platform design decisions.
Lead vendor relationships, platform migrations, escalations, contract performance, roadmap prioritization, and backlog decisions.
Explore AI-driven experiment capture and passive documentation architectures that preserve compliant, attributable records.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, data science, engineering, or a related technical field; an advanced degree is preferred.
10+ years building and delivering software solutions.
7+ years in pharma, biotech, or life sciences supporting laboratory informatics or scientific platforms.
8+ years of people management experience, including building and growing engineering teams.
Hands-on expertise with scientific data platforms such as Benchling and Dotmatics.
Experience partnering with enterprise IT on security, licensing, and infrastructure; familiarity with AI/ML workflows for biological or chemical data is preferred.
