Environmental Area Operations Manager (Environmental Compliance): Leading global environmental compliance, planning, marine sciences, remediation, and geophysics practices for federal and DoD clients with an accent on operational governance, multidisciplinary team leadership, and regulatory delivery. Focus on developing growth strategies, overseeing complex environmental programs, managing DoD remediation projects, and strengthening client and business development efforts.

Location: Open to locations throughout the United States. The position requires proof of US citizenship and the ability to obtain a US Secret security clearance within 6 months.

Expected annual compensation: $196,581–$280,830 in California and Colorado, and $214,452–$306,360 in Virginia.

What you will do

  • Develop and implement strategies for environmental compliance, permitting, planning, remediation, and geophysics services across federal and DoD client sectors.
  • Provide operational governance for environmental compliance, marine sciences, planning, remediation, and geophysics practices.
  • Oversee complex environmental programs and multidisciplinary teams of engineers, scientists, geologists, and hydrogeologists.
  • Monitor project and program performance, quality, safety, regulatory compliance, profitability, and corrective actions.
  • Lead business development, proposals, contract negotiations, client engagement, and strategic growth initiatives.
  • Mentor staff, support training and succession planning, and coordinate cross-functional delivery and continuous improvement.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, Geology, or a related field.
  • At least 10 years of experience developing and managing diverse teams.
  • At least 15 years of relevant experience and deep knowledge of environmental compliance, planning, NEPA, marine sciences, remediation, and project management preferred.
  • Experience with CERCLA and RCRA remediation projects, including work on DoD installations, preferred.
  • Strong leadership, communication, listening, organizational, and project management skills.
  • US citizenship and the ability to obtain a Secret security clearance within 6 months are required.

Nice to have

  • Master’s degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, Geology, or a related field.
  • PE or PG license, OSHA HAZWOPER certification, or certifications such as CHMM, REM, CESCO, or REP.
  • Experience preparing technical proposals for DoD remediation investigations, feasibility studies, and remedial designs.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Esri products.
