TL;DR
Infrastructure Architect, Cloud (AWS/Federal Government): Planning, designing, and overseeing cloud infrastructure for mission-critical federal government systems with an accent on AWS architecture, GovCloud resource management, and infrastructure performance. Focus on assessing and modernizing cloud environments, designing upgrade and integration strategies, and maintaining reliable logging, monitoring, alerting, and operational documentation.

Location: Tysons Corner, Virginia, hybrid; at least 3 days per week in the office. U.S. citizenship is required, and candidates must be able to obtain a public trust clearance.

What you will do

  • Plan, design, assemble, and oversee program infrastructure supporting operations, maintenance, and new development.
  • Assess existing AWS cloud resources, identify defects and performance improvements, and recommend optimizations.
  • Guide engineers and developers on infrastructure best practices and capacity planning for fluctuating demand.
  • Work with government IT operations and other teams to plan upgrades, integrations, cloud migrations, and application modernization.
  • Maintain and enforce logging, monitoring, alerting, architecture diagrams, runbooks, and Agile metrics.
  • Participate in periodic on-call support shared across the engineering team.

Requirements

  • U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain a public trust clearance.
  • Bachelor’s degree with at least 8 years of relevant Enterprise IT experience, or at least 10 years without a bachelor’s degree.
  • Proficiency designing and implementing AWS cloud solutions, including experience managing resources in FedRAMP-approved GovCloud.
  • Ability to analyze AWS services, identify defects, and develop performance and reliability improvements.
  • Strong verbal and written communication, active listening, problem-solving, and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to explain technical issues to non-technical and executive-level government stakeholders.

Nice to have

  • AWS Certified Solutions Architect Professional or AWS Certified DevOps Engineer Professional certification.
  • Experience with DevSecOps pipeline tools, configuration management, automated testing, and CI/CD deployments.
  • Knowledge of Windows or Red Hat Enterprise Linux administration, Terraform, Ansible, TOGAF, and Agile solution design.
  • Experience creating architecture and network diagrams, performance benchmarks, testing strategies, roadmaps, and technical standards.
  • Experience presenting architecture designs to clients, supporting cloud migrations, and modernizing technology cost-effectively.
