Senior COBOL Developer (Mainframe Systems)

Location: Lisbon, Portugal; hybrid work model. Candidates must already have the legal right to work in the European Union.

What you will do

• Develop and enhance mainframe applications using COBOL, DB2/SQL, and JCL.
• Translate detailed business and technical requirements into reliable COBOL programs.
• Collaborate with Business Analysts and Technical Leads to deliver system changes.
• Perform unit testing and system integration testing, including test case execution and documentation.
• Support deployments, troubleshoot issues, and resolve defects during delivery and support phases.
• Mentor junior developers and contribute to knowledge transfer initiatives.

Requirements

• At least 7 years of experience with COBOL, CICS, DB2/SQL, JCL, and mainframe online screens.
• More than 5 years of experience in system analysis, design, and testing.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines, particularly Jenkins and Git.
• Excellent English proficiency at B2 level or higher.
• Existing legal right to work in the European Union is required.

Nice to have

• Experience with Eclipse, Visual COBOL, and Unix shell scripts.
• Knowledge of mainframe support activities during testing phases.
• Certifications in legacy systems or mainframe development.
