Patient Advocate (Oncology)

Salary: $22.33–$31.27 per hour, depending on experience

What you will do

• Verify insurance coverage, patient eligibility, demographics, and third-party payer information.
• Obtain initial and subsequent pre-authorizations, referrals, signatures, and treatment approvals.
• Counsel patients on insurance benefits, financial obligations, billing practices, and payment arrangements.
• Document financial counseling and forward relevant information to the Billing Office.
• Help patients access financial assistance, Medicaid, drug replacement programs, transportation, and community services.
• Collect co-pays, deductibles, and other out-of-pocket amounts while supporting front-office operations.

Requirements

• High school diploma or General Education Degree.
• At least three years of medical business office experience involving insurance procedures and patient interaction.
• Ability to maintain accurate insurance, demographic, eligibility, authorization, and financial records.
• Ability to protect patient confidentiality and follow compliance policies, the Code of Ethics, and Business Standards.
• Ability to sit regularly and occasionally stand, bend, stoop, lift, push, pull, and carry up to 30 pounds.
