Payroll Director - Managed HR Services (ADP)

Location: Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, United States; onsite full-time

Salary: $116,000–$345,330 per year

What you will do

• Lead, develop, and manage a distributed team of 10–15 payroll associates, implementation specialists, and managers.
• Oversee end-to-end payroll delivery, including processing, compliance, issue resolution, client communication, and service quality.
• Lead payroll system implementations covering configuration, data migration, testing, onboarding, and go-live execution.
• Design and optimize scalable payroll processes, workflows, automation, and operational infrastructure.
• Partner with ADP, Intuit, HRIS, and financial technology stakeholders to improve integrations and system performance.
• Drive revenue growth, client expansion, service enhancements, market development, and the strategic scaling of the payroll practice.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree and Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) certification.
• 12+ years of progressive payroll experience, including deep knowledge of payroll operations, compliance, and multi-state payroll requirements.
• 3–5+ years of people management experience and a proven ability to lead complex payroll environments.
• Experience building systems, processes, and operational infrastructure from scratch.
• Ability to operate autonomously, make independent decisions, and manage changing client needs.

Nice to have

• Experience with Intuit and ADP payroll platforms, especially ADP RUN and ADP Workforce Now.
• Background in consulting or outsourced services and experience managing implementations across diverse client environments.
• Experience integrating payroll with HRIS, timekeeping, benefits, and financial systems.
• Experience using AI or advanced tools to improve payroll processes.
