Structural Engineer IV (Aerospace)

Location: Louisville, Colorado, United States; flexible for occasional telework but must be local to the work location.

Projected compensation: $101,175.06–$175,923.79 annually.

What you will do

• Lead and support structural analysis of small satellites, payloads, sub-assemblies, and ground support equipment.
• Develop and execute finite element models using NASA and military standards, and perform first-principles calculations throughout the design cycle.
• Perform linear and nonlinear static, dynamic, and thermal analyses to assess stress margins, fatigue life, and failure modes.
• Collaborate with design, systems engineering, program management, test engineering, and technicians to optimize designs and validate models, simulations, and test plans.
• Conduct trade studies, sensitivity analyses, environmental test campaigns, and structural risk mitigation activities.
• Prepare analysis reports, technical memoranda, and presentations; design satellite components and ground support equipment using CAD; specify structural and mechanical hardware; and improve analysis processes.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree with 8–10 years of professional experience, or a master’s degree with 6–8 years, or a PhD with 3–5 years.
• At least 5 years of professional experience in the space industry, including at least 3 years in structural analysis and at least 3 years in mechanical design for small satellites using CAD software.
• Proficiency with finite element analysis software, specifically Siemens FEMAP, and basic structural and dynamic principles.
• Strong understanding of structural mechanics, dynamics, and materials science principles relevant to aerospace applications.
• Mechanical engineering computer-aided design and modeling experience with SolidWorks or a similar tool.

• Excellent problem-solving and analytical abilities for identifying, assessing, and resolving complex structural challenges and performance issues.
• Ability to bound difficult problems using first principles and hand calculations.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills for conveying technical information to engineers, managers, customers, and other audiences.
• Detail-oriented approach with a commitment to quality, accuracy, and compliance.
• Ability to work in a small team environment with little oversight.
