Structural Engineer V (Aerospace)

Location: Louisville, Colorado, United States; hybrid arrangement with occasional telework, but candidates must be local to the work location.

Projected annual compensation: $121,506.18–$211,275.66.

What you will do

• Lead and support structural analysis of small satellites, payloads, sub-assemblies, and ground support equipment.
• Develop and execute finite element models using NASA and military standards, and perform first-principles calculations throughout the design cycle.
• Conduct linear and nonlinear static, dynamic, and thermal analyses to evaluate stress margins, fatigue life, and failure modes.
• Collaborate with design engineers on structural optimization, materials, configurations, trade studies, sensitivity analyses, and risk mitigation.
• Prepare analysis reports, technical memoranda, and presentations for management, customers, regulatory authorities, and other stakeholders.
• Support design reviews, test planning, environmental test campaigns, model validation, CAD development, hardware specification, quoting, and process improvements with cross-functional engineering and AI&T teams.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree with 10–12 years of professional experience, or a master’s degree with 8–10 years, or a PhD with 5–7 years.
• At least 5 years of professional experience in the space industry, including at least 5 years in structural analysis.
• At least 3 years of experience in mechanical design for small satellites using CAD software.
• Proficiency with finite element analysis software, including Siemens FEMAP, and basic structural and dynamic principles.
• Strong understanding of structural mechanics, dynamics, and materials science principles relevant to aerospace applications.
• Mechanical engineering computer-aided design modeling experience with SolidWorks or a similar tool.

• Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities for identifying, assessing, and resolving complex structural challenges and performance issues.
• Ability to bound difficult problems using first principles and hand calculations.
• Effective communication skills for explaining technical information to engineers, managers, customers, and other audiences.
• Detail-oriented approach with a commitment to quality, accuracy, and compliance in structural analysis and evaluation.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work in a small team with little oversight.
