TL;DR
Senior Communications Engineer II (Satellite Communications): Leading the integration, verification, and delivery of communication payload products for satellites and airborne platforms with an accent on communication-system architecture, modem and data-layer configuration, and RF test infrastructure. Focus on designing time-synchronized test setups, executing system-level verification, debugging complex issues, and driving final sell-off of flight systems.

Location: Austin, Texas, United States; on-site. Applicants must be U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents, conditional residents, asylees, refugees, or eligible to obtain required U.S. Department of State authorizations under space technology export regulations.

What you will do

  • Lead integration and testing of communication systems and subsystems, validating requirements and interfaces.
  • Define modem and data-layer configurations and contribute to communication-system architecture and algorithm development.
  • Develop communication test systems, test plans, procedures, and Special Test Equipment strategies.
  • Execute verification and validation tests, analyze results, and present findings to stakeholders.
  • Design time-synchronized laboratory setups using RF signal generators, spectrum analyzers, and related instrumentation.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship while improving test methodologies, automation, and laboratory infrastructure.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.
  • 5–7 years of relevant experience with a strong background in communication theory.
  • Experience with satellite communications standards, including NR NTN, DVB-S2x, and CCSDS.
  • Hands-on experience with RF, mixed-signal, and laboratory measurement equipment, including signal generators, spectrum analyzers, VNAs, oscilloscopes, and vector signal analyzers.
  • Experience developing measurement abstraction layers and test automation using Python, MATLAB, or similar languages.
  • Experience with RF measurements, antenna evaluation in anechoic chambers, complex test setups, and independent system-level debugging.

Nice to have

  • Knowledge of satellite and wireless communication systems and protocols.
  • Experience with wireless synchronization and parameter-sensing techniques.
  • Familiarity with phased-array antenna architectures and array calibration.
  • Technical leadership, mentoring, or experience leading small engineering teams.
