Assistant Bridge Inspector

Location: Dallas, Texas, United States; hybrid work with daytime field and office or work-from-home work, plus occasional nighttime field work.

What you will do

• Perform routine, in-depth, complex, emergency, NSTM, and fracture-critical bridge inspections.
• Assist inspection teams and develop toward leading teams across bridges of varying complexity.
• Perform engineering calculations and analysis for bridge load ratings and rehabilitation of damaged elements.
• Assist with bridge design calculations, analysis, detailing, plans, specifications, estimates, and quantity take-offs.
• Prepare inspection and progress reports and related technical documentation.
• Support project monitoring, scheduling, work plans, budgets, and maintenance of traffic plans.

Requirements

• Associate’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering with two years of bridge inspection experience, or a bachelor’s degree in Structural or Civil Engineering with a structural emphasis, or equivalent work experience.
• 0–5 years of experience in bridge inspection and design.
• Familiarity with structural design and load-rating software and AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications.
• Safety-conscious approach and responsibility for personal and team safety.
• Willingness to grow into a Bridge Inspection Team Leader role.
• Client-focused, ethical, innovative, and committed to sustainable engineering solutions.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree in engineering.
• Engineer-In-Training certification.
• NBIS Certified Bridge Safety Inspector qualification or completion of FHWA/NHI Bridge Safety Inspection courses.
• SPRAT certification or willingness to obtain it.
• Bridge load-rating experience and completion of the FHWA/NHI LRFR of Highway Bridges course.
