Laboratory Assistant/Technician (Sample Preparation, Overnight)

Location: Murarrie, Brisbane, Queensland, Australia; full-time onsite night shift, Monday–Friday, 8pm–4am. Candidates must currently be based in Brisbane and be eligible to work in Australia or New Zealand with existing work rights or an appropriate working visa.

What you will do

• Receive, sort, and register soil and water samples in the LIMS database, assigning tests and preparing batch sheets in Microsoft Excel.
• Weigh samples, transfer subsamples, and extract analytes according to standard operating procedures.
• Maintain sample traceability, perform quality control tests, and prioritise urgent samples according to turnaround times.
• Process quarantine samples under AQIS-approved procedures and dispose of waste in line with safety and environmental requirements.
• Replenish laboratory consumables and calibrate syringes, steppers, solvent dispensers, and other equipment.
• Keep the laboratory clean and orderly while following company policies, procedures, and the Code of Ethics.

Requirements

• Good understanding of chemistry and mathematics equivalent to Year 12; a science-related degree is beneficial but not required.
• No minimum experience required; previous laboratory experience is advantageous.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality output.
• Comfort working in a fast-paced, hands-on environment with a practical and hardworking approach.
• Willingness to continually learn and improve, with strategic thinking and initiative.
• Must currently be based in Brisbane and already have Australian or New Zealand work rights or an appropriate working visa.
