Executive Director, Assistant General Counsel, Intellectual Property (Biopharma)

Location: Remote for US-based candidates; listed in Palo Alto, California

Salary: $288,000–$432,000 annual base pay, plus potential bonus, equity, and benefits for US-based candidates.

What you will do

• Advise senior leadership, R&D, Commercial, and Corporate Development teams on complex intellectual property matters.
• Develop and execute global patent strategies for products, product candidates, platform technologies, and acquired or licensed assets.
• Lead IP due diligence for acquisitions, licensing opportunities, collaborations, and strategic partnerships.
• Evaluate freedom to operate, infringement, validity, exclusivity, risks, and mitigation strategies.
• Provide IP input into licensing, collaboration, acquisition, and other transaction documents.
• Manage outside counsel and supervise members of the IP team, including teams supporting patent prosecution, litigation, and strategic matters.

Requirements

• Must be based in the United States.
• Fully qualified US Patent Attorney with 12+ years of relevant IP experience in the biopharmaceutical industry.
• Significant in-house or combined in-house and law firm experience, including IP due diligence and licensing and collaboration agreements.
• Undergraduate degree in biological science, biochemistry, chemistry, or another field relevant to pharmaceuticals, life sciences, or biotechnology.
• Experience managing IP practitioners and staff, outside counsel, and cross-functional workloads.
• Advanced degree preferred; experience with adversarial and administrative proceedings is a plus.
