Sr. HVAC Engineer (GMP Facilities)

Location: Rockville, Maryland, USA; licensed engineer with the ability to obtain licensure in Florida required.

Salary: USD 135,000–175,000 yearly

What you will do

• Lead mechanical design for large-scale, technically complex GMP projects, including cleanrooms, laboratories, and manufacturing facilities.
• Develop and validate HVAC layouts covering pressurization, airflow control, environmental compliance, and mechanical utilities.
• Integrate refrigeration, plumbing, and fire protection systems into coordinated MEP designs.
• Perform and review engineering calculations, equipment sizing, system selections, and energy-related assessments.
• Coordinate with architects, process engineers, construction teams, clients, vendors, manufacturers, and subcontractors.
• Support project planning, budgeting, scheduling, QA/QC reviews, technical mentorship, and design documentation through construction.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• Professional engineering license and ability to obtain licensure in Florida required.
• 10+ years of mechanical engineering experience focused on MEP systems.
• Expertise in GMP facility design, cleanroom classifications, and HVAC pressurization strategies required.
• Strong knowledge of HVAC, refrigeration, plumbing, fire protection systems, ASHRAE, NFPA, and applicable codes.
• Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, and mechanical design tools such as Trane Trace or Carrier HAP, plus strong leadership and coordination skills.

Nice to have

• Experience in pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or life sciences industries.
• Knowledge of sustainable design practices such as LEED or WELL.
• Experience with design-build or EPCM project delivery models.
