TL;DR
Sr. Design Checker (Mechanical, Electrical, Structural, and Controls): Reviewing and verifying designer drawings, models, layouts, dimensions, BOMs, and equipment selections for packaged modular systems with an accent on technical compliance, safety, manufacturability, and industry standards. Focus on identifying tolerance stack-ups, validating multidisciplinary systems and weld or electrical specifications, and improving department design-checking standards.
Location: Houston, TX (TAS-Cullen HQ); on-site full-time position

What you will do
- Review designer drawings, models, layouts, and section views for compliance with design, maintenance, manufacturing, installation, operating, safety, and clearance requirements.
- Verify BOMs, callouts, dimensions, component tolerances, weld symbols, beam selections, voltages, wire sizes, and breaker sizes.
- Check equipment access, service areas, egress, value-engineered alternatives, and the accurate representation of design intent.
- Perform non-technical reviews against CAD standards, borders, title blocks, text, notes, callouts, and view requirements.
- Attend model reviews and execute the design process from inception through closure.
- Develop, improve, and publish department practices and standards.
Requirements
- 12+ years of relevant mechanical, structural, electrical, and controls design experience related to manufacturing TAS products.
- Advanced experience as a designer/checker for package or plant designs and layouts.
- Hands-on experience with 3D modeling and drafting software.
- Broad knowledge of technical applications, maintenance, operation, and clearance constraints for structural, mechanical, controls, and electrical equipment systems.
- Knowledge of applicable codes and standards, including NEC, IEC, ASME, AISC, AWS, UMC, OSHA, and building codes.
- High school diploma and the ability to work primarily at a desk with extensive computer use and reading.
Nice to have
- Proficiency with SolidWorks, Inventor, Catia, or Pro-E.
- Experience in HVAC, piping design, or industrial plant design.
- Associate degree in a technical discipline or 3D/CAD design.
