TL;DR
Senior Mechanical Engineer (Kick Stage) (Aerospace Structures): Designing, analyzing, building, testing, and integrating flight hardware for advanced propulsion space vehicles with an accent on pressurized and unpressurized structures, propulsion integration, and manufacturing readiness. Focus on defining load cases, supporting qualification campaigns, validating structural performance, and solving cross-functional challenges across propulsion, avionics, GNC, manufacturing, and test teams.

Location: Redondo Beach, United States; onsite

Salary: $140,000–$180,000 per year, plus potential stock options and benefits.

What you will do

  • Design, analyze, build, test, and document pressurized and unpressurized aerospace structures and flight hardware.
  • Define system layouts, requirements, verification plans, and driving load cases.
  • Support first-article builds and production ramp-up with manufacturing, including design-for-manufacturing and reliability improvements.
  • Develop test plans and support development, qualification, validation, and correlation campaigns.
  • Collaborate with propulsion, avionics, GNC, loads and dynamics, thermal, manufacturing, and test teams to integrate high-performance vehicle systems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience designing and analyzing structural aerospace hardware.
  • Strong knowledge of strength and stability calculations, mechanics of materials, material failure modes, and structural analysis methods.
  • Familiarity with machining, welding, forming, joining, and other manufacturing processes.
  • Proficiency with CAD software and assembly management, plus strong cross-functional communication skills.
  • Must be a U.S. Person or eligible to obtain an export license under applicable U.S. export regulations, including ITAR and EAR.

Nice to have

  • Master’s degree or 7+ years of relevant experience with space-flown hardware.
  • Experience with aerospace aluminum welding, inspection, allowables, composite structures, payload accommodations, and structural testing.
  • Experience with launch vehicle development and startup or agile environments.
  • Experience with NX, Teamcenter, Ansys, or FEMAP.
