Senior Mechanical Engineer (Rail + Transit)

Salary: $117,600–$176,400 annually

What you will do

• Design HVAC, tunnel ventilation, and smoke control systems for underground stations, tunnels, and transit facilities.
• Coordinate vertical transportation systems, including elevators and accessibility-related infrastructure.
• Prepare contract drawings, specifications, technical reports, and other design documentation.
• Perform engineering calculations, equipment sizing, and airflow and system modeling.
• Apply NFPA, ASHRAE, building code, and transit authority requirements.
• Collaborate with architects, structural and electrical engineers, and fire and life safety specialists; participate in QA/QC reviews and mentor junior engineers.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering; a master’s degree is a plus.
• 10+ years of mechanical engineering experience, ideally in rail, transit, tunnels, or complex building systems.
• Strong expertise in HVAC and ventilation design for enclosed or underground environments.
• Knowledge of engineering standards, life safety requirements, and transit-related design criteria.
• Ability to produce detailed, high-quality design deliverables and collaborate in multidisciplinary teams.
• PE license preferred or in progress.

Nice to have

• Experience with elevator or vertical transportation systems.
• Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
