Field Chemist II (Redmond, WA)

Location: Tacoma, WA, USA; customer-site travel required

Pay range: $36.20–$49.77 per hour, depending on the locality of hire.

What you will do

• Lead the collection, characterization, packaging, and final disposal of customer hazardous waste.
• Transport customer waste safely in accordance with federal regulations and receiving-facility requirements.
• Prepare packing lists, waste labels, shipping documents, and other customer paperwork.
• Perform inspections, waste collection, chemical dispensing, inventory management, housekeeping, and outbound waste shipments at customer locations.
• Sample and categorize suspected waste contents using field-screening procedures and provide customers with detailed onsite waste inventories.
• Travel regularly to customer locations and support additional environmental services.

Requirements

• Proficient knowledge of chemistry principles, waste processing and treatment protocols, and waste characterization.
• Knowledge of federal and state environmental and transportation regulations, including DOT, OSHA, and RCRA.
• Experience with waste sampling, waste profiles, computer-based reporting, negotiation, problem solving, and customer communication.
• Valid driver’s license, an MVR meeting company standards, and an active CDL Class A, B, or C with HAZMAT endorsement.
• 40-hour HAZWOPER certification with an 8-hour refresher, or the ability to complete the course after hire.
• Ability to pass respirator fit testing and regularly lift or move objects weighing 40 pounds or more.

• Tanker endorsement, or the ability to obtain it within 3–6 months of hire.
• Ability to build effective relationships with customers, associates, and managers.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to communicate complex concepts clearly.
