Executive Director, Platform Foundations & Observability

Location: Chicago, United States; hybrid work environment with up to 2 days per week of remote work.

Salary: $216,800–$342,400 annually, plus a discretionary incentive target of 28%–35%.

What you will do

• Lead the Platform Foundations portfolio covering Kubernetes, Kafka, and enterprise data platforms.
• Define observability standards and golden paths for logging, metrics, tracing, and alerting across platform services.
• Scale the SRE practice through SLOs, SLAs, error budgets, on-call models, incident response, and blameless postmortems.
• Own platform metrics, KPI frameworks, dashboards, executive reporting, capacity forecasting, and risk transparency.
• Coordinate platform programs, dependencies, delivery capacity, roadmaps, and cross-functional priorities.
• Lead and develop engineering managers and senior technical staff while managing budgets and audit remediation.

Requirements

• Executive-level leadership experience in platform engineering, SRE, or infrastructure within a regulated industry.
• 15+ years of progressive cloud engineering, platform reliability, or infrastructure experience, including at least 5 years in senior engineering leadership.
• Expert knowledge of Kubernetes and container orchestration, with strong working knowledge of Kafka, event-driven architecture, and data platforms.
• Deep experience with SRE tooling, observability platforms, cloud platforms, cloud-native architecture, and Infrastructure as Code.
• Experience establishing SLO/SLA frameworks, reliability standards, metrics and reporting frameworks, production change control, audit, and compliance processes.
• Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline or equivalent experience, with strong executive communication and team leadership skills.

Nice to have

• Experience with multi-cloud or hybrid cloud environments.
• Experience with GRC tools such as ServiceNow or Archer.
• Experience working with enterprise risk, legal, or compliance functions in financial services.
