Staff Wireless Systems Engineer (AI/ML): Designing an intelligent cloud-native RAN for direct-to-device satellite connectivity with an accent on 3GPP NR-NTN architecture, neural signal processing, and ML-based optimization across L1/L2/L3. Focus on developing production-ready AI models for channel estimation, signal detection, interference mitigation, data generation, and network performance in high-latency satellite environments.

Location: Espoo, Finland; hybrid work with onsite attendance three days per week

Develops a standards-based, cloud-native Non-Terrestrial Network platform that connects smartphones and IoT devices directly to satellites through commercial NTN virtualized RAN infrastructure.

What you will do

  • Lead the design and implementation of AI-enhanced RAN features for performance optimization across L2 and L3 protocol layers.
  • Develop and validate neural-network-based PHY-layer algorithms for channel estimation, signal detection, and interference mitigation.
  • Build data-generation frameworks across the RAN stack using synthetic data, sandbox platforms, and live data.
  • Optimize NR-NTN network efficiency, reliability, and latency for high-latency and dynamic satellite environments.
  • Shape the AI/ML-driven RAN technical roadmap, develop intellectual property, and collaborate with chipset and OEM partners on certification roadmaps.
  • Review complex system designs, define AI model test plans, and mentor engineers across global sites.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience in wireless systems engineering, including L1/L2/L3 system design and RAN architecture.
  • Hands-on experience training or fine-tuning models and applying machine learning to wireless communications.
  • Deep knowledge of 3GPP NR-NTN, LTE, and NB-IoT protocols.
  • Ability to conduct technical research and translate AI concepts into production-ready wireless solutions.
  • PhD or Master's degree in Telecommunications, Electrical Engineering, or a related field focused on wireless communication, signal processing, or machine learning.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and experience leading collaboration between engineering and product teams; active use of AI tools is expected.
