Associate Actuary - Retail Excess Casualty

Location: New York, United States; primarily in the office

Salary: $120,000–$150,000 per year, plus eligibility for a bonus.

What you will do

• Support pricing, profitability analysis, portfolio deep dives, and strategy for the Retail Excess Casualty segment.
• Develop and maintain rating systems, review pricing for large accounts, and ensure accurate quoting and rating execution.
• Prepare premium adequacy reports, budget loss-ratio estimates, KPI reports, earnings-related reporting, and large-loss analyses.
• Analyze loss trends, claims emergence, underwriting actions, and their impact on current and future performance.
• Collaborate with underwriting, data, finance, claims, and other actuarial teams to improve processes and implement best practices.
• Perform peer reviews, advise business stakeholders, and train junior staff while managing one direct report.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field.
• At least 5 years of experience, preferably in commercial casualty pricing.
• ACAS qualification or progress toward ACAS preferred.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, presentation, collaboration, and time-management skills.
• Proficiency in Excel, SQL, SAS, Python, R, or other programming languages preferred.
• Ability to work primarily from the New York office.
