Associate Actuary (Casualty Specialty Markets)

Location: Jersey City, New Jersey, United States; primarily in the office

Salary: $120,000–$150,000 base salary, plus eligibility for a bonus.

What you will do

• Provide pricing, analytics, and technical support for Energy, Trucking, and Environmental portfolios, with a focus on Commercial Auto Liability.
• Perform profitability analyses, portfolio deep dives, large-account pricing reviews, and monthly business KPI reporting.
• Develop and maintain rating systems, execute rate level indications and rate reviews, and prepare premium adequacy reports and budget loss ratio estimates.
• Support quarterly earnings reporting, business actual-versus-expected analysis, diagnostics, large-loss reporting, and annual budgeting.
• Partner with underwriting, claims, finance, data, and senior management teams to improve pricing, underwriting strategy, and actuarial processes.
• Conduct peer reviews, train junior staff, and manage one direct report.

Requirements

• At least an Associate of the Casualty Actuarial Society (ACAS).
• At least five years of commercial lines actuarial experience, preferably including significant commercial auto pricing experience.
• Strong communication skills, including the ability to present clear analysis and recommendations to senior management.
• Ability to learn continuously, adapt to a changing environment, meet deadlines, and maintain strong attention to detail.
• Proficiency in Excel, SQL, Snowflake, Python, R, or other programming languages is preferred.
