Senior Staff Bioinformatics Scientist (DNA/RNA)

Location: United States, California, San Diego; remote role

Salary: $170,600–$255,800 base salary per year, plus eligible bonus, commission, and equity opportunities.

What you will do

• Lead the development of novel algorithms and analytical methods for RNA and multiomic sequencing applications.
• Design, evaluate, validate, and implement scalable methods for bulk RNA-seq, single-cell sequencing, CRISPR/Perturb-seq, ATAC-seq, CROP-seq, and emerging multiomic assays.
• Apply machine learning, AI-based methods, foundation models, LLM-enabled workflows, and biological foundation models to method development, validation, interpretation, and product innovation.
• Develop production-quality bioinformatics software with bioinformatics scientists, software engineers, FPGA engineers, assay development teams, and product teams.
• Lead technical projects across multiple product cycles, define requirements, evaluate risks, influence product direction, and identify new analytical capabilities and intellectual property opportunities.
• Mentor scientists and engineers and contribute to scientific and technical leadership.

Requirements

• PhD in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science, Statistics, Biology, or a related discipline, or equivalent industry experience.
• Significant experience developing DNA/RNA bioinformatics algorithms, analytical methods, and production software for NGS applications.
• Strong background in genomics, transcriptomics, and biological data analysis.
• Proficiency in C++, Python, or a similar programming language.
• Experience designing, validating, benchmarking, and interpreting computational methods for complex biological datasets.
• Technical leadership experience driving complex projects from concept through product delivery, with strong cross-functional communication and collaboration skills.

Nice to have

• Experience with bulk RNA-seq, gene expression, alternative splicing, gene fusion detection, RNA biomarkers, single-cell genomics, or transcriptomics.
• Experience with CRISPR/Perturb-seq, CROP-seq, ATAC-seq, spatial transcriptomics, or other multiomic assays.
• Experience applying machine learning, artificial intelligence, modern data science, or AI-assisted development tools to biological data analysis and software validation.
• Experience with cloud computing, distributed computing, large-scale genomic data processing, oncology, clinical genomics, population genomics, or biotechnology product development.
• Typically, 12+ years of related experience with a bachelor's degree, 8+ years with a master's degree, or a PhD with 5+ years of experience.
