TL;DR
Associate Director, Computational Biology (Oncology) (Computational Biology/Drug Discovery): Leading computational target discovery and precision oncology strategies by integrating phenomics, transcriptomics, genomics, proteomics, and clinical data with an accent on oncology, immunological diseases, and early drug discovery. Focus on mentoring computational scientists, designing target validation methods, building data packages, and connecting analysis methods with platform and engineering teams.

Location: Salt Lake City, Utah, United States; office-based hybrid work with at least 50% of working time in the office

Annual base salary: $200,000–$220,500, plus annual bonus, equity compensation, and comprehensive benefits.

What you will do

  • Lead a team of computational biologists and data scientists focused on oncology target discovery and therapeutic advancement.
  • Evaluate molecular evidence, nominate and validate targets, and identify novel vulnerabilities in disease biology.
  • Pilot computational methods for target discovery, disease biology validation, and early patient population hypotheses.
  • Define criteria for target data packages and early patient population strategies.
  • Connect analytical methods with platform and engineering teams to scale discovery capabilities.
  • Collaborate with biologists, medicinal chemists, translational experts, and clinical leads to support program milestones and portfolio decisions.

Requirements

  • PhD in computational biology, bioinformatics, cancer biology, immuno-oncology, or a related field with 3+ years of biotech or pharmaceutical industry experience; or a relevant MS with 5+ years of industry experience in early drug discovery.
  • Domain expertise in oncology or immunological diseases, including patient genetics and druggability of disease-relevant pathways.
  • Experience applying probabilistic, statistical, or machine learning methods to complex biological or clinical data.
  • Proficiency with a high-level programming language such as Python or R, plus exceptional data visualization skills.
  • Experience managing and developing direct reports in a scientific or technical environment.
  • Strong cross-functional communication skills and the ability to explain complex scientific concepts through plots, documents, and presentations.

Nice to have

  • Experience building a target discovery engine in oncology or immunological diseases.
  • Experience designing high-throughput CRISPR or small-molecule perturbation screens.
  • Exposure to translational or clinical development programs and target validation model selection.
