Senior Regulatory Specialist - Strategic Regulatory

Location: Oakland, California, USA. Hybrid schedule with a minimum of three days per week in the office.

Salary: $131,200–$258,500 for Zone A, $120,300–$237,000 for Zone B, or $109,400–$215,500 for Zone C, plus eligibility for incentive plans.

What you will do

• Serve as a regulatory subject matter expert for programs affecting products, packaging, ingredients, and labeling.
• Lead and influence regulatory strategy for Extended Producer Responsibility programs.
• Interpret laws, regulations, guidance, and program requirements, assessing applicability, obligations, timelines, and business impact.
• Identify regulatory risks and compliance gaps, and develop practical implementation options.
• Support regulatory filings, reports, registrations, certifications, analyses, and compliance documentation.
• Monitor emerging requirements and collaborate with Government Affairs, Legal, Sustainability, regional regulatory teams, trade associations, regulators, and business stakeholders.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Chemistry, Environmental Science, Materials Science, or a related technical discipline.
• 8+ years of experience in regulatory affairs, product stewardship, compliance, or a related technical or regulatory function.
• Strong understanding of complex regulatory frameworks and multi-jurisdictional regulatory programs.
• Ability to translate regulatory requirements into practical business solutions and manage complex compliance requirements involving multiple stakeholders, timelines, and data sources.
• Strong analytical, communication, and stakeholder management skills, with proven success in a matrixed organization.
• Ability to work from the Oakland headquarters at least three days per week.

Nice to have

• Experience supporting regulatory programs across multiple product categories or regions.
• Experience working with EPR organizations, regulators, trade associations, consultants, or similar external stakeholders.
• Experience with international regulations.
• Advanced degree such as an MS, PhD, or JD in a relevant technical or regulatory field.
