Operational Risk Manager (Fintech)

Location: Chicago, United States

Salary: $175,000–$225,000 USD base salary per year, plus discretionary bonus eligibility.

What you will do

• Manage market access and pre-trade risk controls.
• Review trading limits and perform control testing.
• Investigate and manage operational and trading incidents, driving resolution across multiple teams.
• Work directly with traders and Technology, Risk, and Compliance teams.
• Prepare risk documentation and respond to reviews, information requests, and counterparty risk questionnaires.
• Support new trading businesses, products, systems, regulatory initiatives, and risk-process automation.

Requirements

• Approximately 5–10 years of relevant experience in operational risk, trading risk, electronic trading controls, or a related financial markets role.
• Strong understanding of market access and pre-trade risk controls, trading limits, control testing, and incident management.
• Experience working directly with traders and Technology teams.
• Strong written, verbal, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Bachelor’s degree.
• Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and collaborate across Trading, Technology, Risk, and Compliance.

Nice to have

• Experience at a proprietary trading firm, market maker, broker-dealer, or electronic execution or algorithmic trading business.
• Experience with clearing and executing broker risk questionnaires.
• Policy and procedure development experience.
• Experience supporting new trading businesses, products, systems, or regulatory initiatives.
