Data Domain Engineering Director (Data Mesh)

Location: Budapest, Hungary; remote work is available only within Hungary due to European taxation regulation.

What you will do

• Own the full lifecycle of domain data products, from design and development through operationalization, evolution, and retirement.
• Lead technical delivery across data ingestion, pipelines, transformations, APIs, and data engineering processes.
• Define and enforce domain-level standards for governance, interoperability, quality, documentation, metadata, and reuse.
• Ensure operational reliability through service level objectives, monitoring, observability, and continuous improvement.
• Partner with business domain owners and coordinate delivery with data platform, data foundation, and other domain engineering leaders.
• Hire, coach, staff, and develop high-performing data engineering and data product teams while managing technical debt and architectural evolution.

Requirements

• Strong expertise in data product architecture and domain-oriented data product design.
• Proven experience building and operating scalable data products on modern cloud-based data platforms.
• Deep understanding of data ingestion, pipelines, transformations, APIs, service level objectives, monitoring, and observability.
• Strong understanding of data product management, including consumers, lifecycle, adoption, product value, and service levels.
• Experience with federated data operating models, domain-based ownership, Data Mesh environments, interoperability, standardization, and cross-domain dependencies.
• Proven leadership experience managing, staffing, developing, and coaching data engineering and data product teams.
