Mechatronics Engineer (Industrial Automation)

What you will do

• Lead mechatronics projects from conception through completion, managing delivery timelines and budgets.
• Upgrade electrical and automation equipment on process lines and support commissioning of new production lines.
• Integrate sensors, actuators, microcontrollers, PLCs, and control systems into reliable, high-performance solutions.
• Monitor and calibrate automated systems to improve production efficiency and OEE.
• Develop and execute test plans, troubleshoot plant SCADA and OT networks, and ensure systems meet quality and regulatory requirements.
• Support continuous improvement, rapid prototyping, product iteration, technology scale-up, and preventative maintenance planning across New Zealand sites.

Requirements

• Degree or diploma in Mechatronics Engineering or a related field.
• At least 2 years of experience in industrial automation and systems design engineering.
• Experience with PLCs, SCADA systems, robotics, industrial sensors, and control systems, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
• CAD skills, including simple mechanical component design, electrical schematics, and PLC program modifications.
• Knowledge of communication protocols such as OPC-UA, Modbus, and Profinet.
• Ability to work across mechanical, electrical, and software disciplines, with strong analytical, communication, teamwork, and leadership skills.

Nice to have

• Experience with Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or Omron systems.
• Ability to develop algorithms for process automation.
