Automation Mechanical Engineer II (Industrial Controls)

Base pay range for Colorado applicants: $123,714–$173,199.60 annually; other site ranges may differ.

What you will do

• Design control system architectures covering network topology, I/O distribution, safety systems, and communication protocols.
• Develop and integrate PLC, HMI, robot, and other industrial controls for custom automated manufacturing equipment.
• Create offline simulations to validate control logic, robot paths, cycle times, and system behavior.
• Integrate auxiliary machines, tools, and equipment into unified control systems.
• Support panel fabrication, field installation, commissioning, start-up, and factory and site acceptance testing.
• Prepare sequence-of-operations documents, I/O lists, network diagrams, and controls documentation.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in electrical, mechanical, mechatronics, controls, or a related engineering field.
• At least two years of hands-on experience developing or integrating industrial controls and automation systems, including PLC and HMI programming.
• Experience interpreting and reviewing electrical and mechanical drawings.
• Experience designing industrial safety systems, including functional safety devices, safety PLCs, and safety-rated circuits.
• Exposure to industrial automation platforms such as robots, AGVs, conveyors, CNC machines, NDT, assembly, testing, or process tools.
• Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident, or lawfully admitted refugee or asylee.

Nice to have

• Knowledge of IEC 61131, ANSI B11, NFPA 79, RIA R15.06, IEC 62061, or ISO 13849.
• Experience with offline programming or virtual commissioning tools such as Plant Simulate, Process Simulate, Visual Components, KUKA.Sim, or RobotStudio.
• Experience with machine vision, electrical control panels, or industrial electrical CAD tools such as AutoCAD Electrical or EPLAN.
• Experience delivering custom automated manufacturing systems from concept through production ramp-up.
