TL;DR
ATC Radar Systems Engineers (Air Traffic Control Radar): Designing, integrating, testing, and supporting FAA primary and secondary radar installations with an accent on site design, implementation planning, and radar system performance. Focus on preparing SSIP and SLIP documentation, analyzing electrical and mechanical installation requirements, and validating systems through optimization, acceptance testing, and equipment cutover.

Location: Remote within the United States, with approximately 25–30% travel to project sites nationwide.

Compensation: $45.00–$80.00 per hour, depending on experience, qualifications, level, geographic location, and internal equity.

What you will do

  • Design, plan, develop, and implement new air traffic control radar installation projects.
  • Support the full lifecycle of radar systems from initial concept through in-service support.
  • Prepare System Level Implementation Plans and Site-Specific Implementation Plans for government approval.
  • Develop drawings, specifications, construction plans, site preparation plans, installation designs, testing plans, and equipment cutover documentation.
  • Define electrical, mechanical, test equipment, and physical installation requirements while interfacing with government-specified demarcation points.
  • Support radar testing, integration, optimization, acceptance testing, troubleshooting, and legacy equipment removal.

Requirements

  • Background in electrical engineering, systems engineering, or a related field, typically supported by a BSEE or MSEE degree.
  • Experience or training in radar system design, testing, integration, electronics, and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to use oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, power meters, signal generators, and diagnostic software.
  • Ability to analyze facility drawings and provide red-line changes where appropriate.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office tools, structural components, MEP systems, equipment conditions, or network configuration.
  • Ability to meet federal contract background investigation requirements; most positions require U.S. citizenship.

Nice to have

  • Experience with FAA ASR-9 or ASR-11 digital Primary Airport Surveillance Radar systems.
  • Experience with FAA ATCBI-6/Mode-S Secondary Radar Systems or comparable military primary and secondary radar systems.
  • Military experience operating or providing engineering support for radar equipment.
