TL;DR
Principal Video Engineer (Digital Surgery): Designing and optimizing low-latency video pipelines for AEOS digital surgery systems with an accent on GPU-accelerated image processing, real-time rendering, and surgical visualization. Focus on developing advanced imaging capabilities, architecting camera and video workflows, and meeting medical-device performance and regulatory requirements.

Location: Onsite in Goleta, California, United States. Relocation is available.

Salary: $170,000–$210,000 per year.

What you will do

  • Define, develop, and optimize end-to-end video pipelines for digital surgery products, including color science and image quality optimization.
  • Lead the architecture and implementation of video acquisition, image processing, rendering, display, calibration, synchronization, and real-time video workflows.
  • Develop advanced imaging capabilities such as fluorescence-guided surgery, multi-modal visualization, image enhancement, and integration of perioperative imaging and navigation data.
  • Build high-performance C++ software and GPU-accelerated CUDA algorithms for performance-critical imaging applications.
  • Optimize real-time graphics and visualization pipelines using OpenGL, OpenCV, GStreamer, FFmpeg, and video codecs.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship while collaborating with Software, Hardware, and Systems Engineering on requirements, roadmaps, verification, validation, and regulatory compliance.

Requirements

  • 12+ years of related hardware, software, or systems experience with a bachelor’s degree; or 10 years with a master’s degree; or a PhD with 8 years of experience, including significant GPU-based imaging experience.
  • Strong experience with C++, CUDA, object-oriented design, and programming.
  • Experience developing software for regulated medical devices under IEC 62304, FDA Design Controls, ISO 13485, and related standards.
  • Experience with version control systems such as Git or SVN and established software engineering practices.
  • Working knowledge of Scrum or other Agile development methodologies.
