Structural Engineer — AI Task Creator (OpenSees)

Location: Fully remote; work from anywhere

What you will do

• Design AI training tasks based on real structural engineering problems covering analysis, design, simulation, and code compliance.
• Write precise problem statements that test AI reasoning about structural behavior.
• Develop deterministic scoring checkers and trusted reference solutions.
• Build realistic tasks with OpenSees covering pushover analysis, seismic design, FEA modeling, reinforced concrete, steel connections, and structural retrofit.
• Evaluate AI-generated responses for technical accuracy, engineering soundness, and adherence to Eurocode and DIN standards.
• Provide structured expert feedback and work independently on an asynchronous schedule.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a closely related field.
• Applied experience in structural analysis and design, including practical use of engineering software and design codes.
• Proficiency with OpenSees.
• Knowledge of Eurocode EN 1992, EN 1993, EN 1998 and/or DIN standards.
• Experience with pushover analysis, response spectrum analysis, nonlinear modeling, or performance-based design.
• Strong written English communication skills; German is optional.

Nice to have

• FEA scripting with OpenSees Tcl or Python beyond commercial software.
• Experience in seismic assessment, retrofit design, or performance-based earthquake engineering.
• Familiarity with reinforcement learning, AI training workflows, or prompt engineering.
• Published research, professional structural or earthquake engineering work, or engineering education experience.
• Chartered or licensed engineer status, such as Bauingenieur or Prüfingenieur registration.
