TL;DR
Director, Nuclear Engineering (Portable Nuclear Microreactors): Leading nuclear design and analysis strategy for a fleet of mass-produced, portable microreactors with an accent on core physics, shielding, dose and consequence analysis, and nuclear instrumentation. Focus on building the nuclear engineering organization, standardizing analysis roadmaps, managing regulatory and technical risks, and establishing design margins and peer reviews.

Location: 100% onsite at hirify.global's El Segundo, California headquarters; must be willing to relocate to El Segundo

Salary: $173,000–$237,300 per year, plus equity

hirify.global is a startup developing mass-produced, portable nuclear microreactors, including the 1-megawatt fail-safe Kaleidos reactor.

What you will do

  • Lead and grow a nuclear engineering team covering core physics, shielding performance, dose and consequence analysis, and nuclear instrumentation.
  • Manage execution, remove roadblocks, adapt priorities, and deliver against the nuclear engineering strategy.
  • Identify, manage, and communicate technical, schedule, and regulatory risks.
  • Develop standardized analysis roadmaps for rapid iteration across multiple reactor programs.
  • Define nuclear engineering design margins and methodical peer-review processes.
  • Collaborate with universities, national laboratories, and other external organizations.

Requirements

  • Degree in nuclear engineering, physics, or engineering physics from an accredited institution.
  • At least 10 years of experience managing teams in reactor design and analysis.
  • Fluency in engineering first principles across nuclear, thermal, electrical, and mechanical domains.
  • Strong ability to communicate nuclear engineering concepts to multidisciplinary audiences.
  • Experience with DOE authorization and/or NRC requirements and processes, including nuclear facility safety bases.
  • Experience with Monte Carlo neutron transport codes such as OpenMC, Serpent, or MCNP; willingness to work extended hours and weekends as needed.
