Head of Software Engineering (AI)

Location: Remote, Toronto, Canada; valid authorization to work in Canada is required.

Salary: CAD $175k–$220k annually plus bonus.

What you will do

• Define and execute the technology strategy, architecture roadmap, and modernization of the cloud SaaS platform.
• Lead AI, machine learning, forecasting, decision-support, MLOps, data governance, model deployment, and monitoring initiatives.
• Implement an AI-enabled software development lifecycle covering discovery, coding, testing, documentation, deployment, and support.
• Drive engineering productivity through AI-assisted coding, automated testing, code quality analysis, documentation generation, and DevOps automation.
• Recruit, develop, and retain engineering talent while building managers, technical leaders, career paths, and succession plans.
• Partner with Product and executive stakeholders on roadmap planning, customer outcomes, enterprise growth, localization, data residency, and multi-region expansion.

Requirements

• 10+ years of software engineering experience.
• 5+ years leading engineering teams in a SaaS environment, including experience managing managers.
• Experience building and scaling cloud-based SaaS platforms, distributed systems, APIs, and multi-tenant architectures.
• Experience with data platforms, analytics, security, reliability, AI/ML capabilities, and AI-assisted engineering workflows.
• Strong product and customer orientation with enterprise customer experience and executive-level communication skills.
• Valid authorization to work in Canada is required.

Nice to have

• Experience in QSR, restaurant, retail, hospitality, franchising, or multi-location operations.
• Experience with forecasting, optimization, labor planning, inventory planning, or operational analytics products.
• International software deployment, localization, or multi-region SaaS experience.
• Previous VP Engineering, CTO, Senior Director of Engineering, or comparable executive leadership experience.
