Principal Software Developer (Search Infrastructure)

Location: Toronto, Canada

Salary: CAD 131,000–191,400 annual base salary, with potential bonuses, stock grants, and benefits.

What you will do

• Own and deliver complex modules within Search Infrastructure for hirify.global Platform Services.
• Design, develop, and operate highly scalable, distributed, data-intensive microservices.
• Partner with software architects, product managers, and engineering managers on technical solutions and business outcomes.
• Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize large-scale services to meet SLAs.
• Lead production incident detection, recovery, and postmortems.
• Conduct design and code reviews, promote engineering best practices, and mentor engineers.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• 10+ years of experience building and operating large-scale systems.
• Strong foundations in data structures, algorithms, distributed systems, and data management.
• Expertise in Java, Golang, or a similar programming language, including multithreading, concurrency, and parallel processing.
• Experience with databases such as MySQL or DynamoDB, including scalability, performance, and consistency.
• Experience with API design, microservices, stream processing, AWS, operational resilience, and information retrieval using Lucene, Elasticsearch, or OpenSearch.

Nice to have

• Exposure to vector databases and ML infrastructure.
• Exposure to knowledge graphs or graph databases.
• Experience improving reliability of complex systems at scale.
• Awareness of security and compliance challenges in cloud products or platforms.
