Senior Communications Program Specialist (IT Communications): Developing executive, web, and operational communications for the FAA's Office of Information & Technology with an accent on translating complex IT information into clear, actionable messaging. Focus on building communication strategies, coordinating formal review and approval workflows, and delivering accurate content for technology rollouts, service changes, and executive priorities.

Location: Remote within the United States; candidates must reside in AL, AZ, DC, FL, GA, ID, MD, MS, NJ, NC, OK, OH, PA, SC, TN, TX, UT, VA, or WV. U.S. citizenship is required, and the position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.

Salary: $112,000–$127,000 per year.

What you will do

  • Gather communications requirements from FAA stakeholders and turn them into strategies, plans, and communication products.
  • Create executive-ready and tactical materials, including briefings, talking points, FAQs, announcements, newsletters, job aids, web content, and campaign materials.
  • Plan communications for IT maintenance, technology pilots, feature releases, service changes, and adoption initiatives.
  • Develop messaging frameworks, stakeholder analyses, channel strategies, content calendars, and rollout plans.
  • Translate complex technical information into clear, actionable content for technical and nontechnical audiences.
  • Coordinate drafting, validation, review, approval, publication, events, executive taskers, and status reporting.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Business Administration, Information Technology, IT Management, or a related field.
  • At least 10 years of progressive communications experience, including strategic communications in corporate or government environments.
  • Executive-level writing experience covering correspondence, briefings, and talking points.
  • Experience coordinating communications through formal approval chains and supporting technology communications, IT service communications, or technology adoption initiatives.
  • Expert written and verbal communication skills, including plain language, audience targeting, executive-ready formatting, and digital communications.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet tight deadlines, maintain workflow and suspense tracking, and produce drafts requiring minimal Government rework.

Nice to have

  • Master’s degree in a related field.
  • Experience supporting FAA or Department of Transportation organizations.
  • Familiarity with FAA or DOT internal communications channels and governance processes.
