Kafka Engineer

Location: 100% remote within the United States

What you will do

• Architect, deploy, and operate large-scale Apache Kafka and Confluent Platform environments.
• Own the Kafka platform lifecycle, including cluster sizing, configuration, security, automation, and observability.
• Design and maintain reliable event-driven streaming infrastructure for mission-critical workloads.
• Partner with application, product, design, engineering, operations, and business teams to translate requirements into production-ready solutions.
• Improve engineering quality through code reviews, design reviews, documentation, and mentorship.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
• At least five years of production experience operating Apache Kafka or Confluent Platform; the position lists 7+ years of overall experience.
• Deep knowledge of Kafka internals, including partitions, replication, ISRs, and consumer groups.
• Hands-on experience with Kafka security, Kafka Connect, Schema Registry, and Kafka Streams or ksqlDB.
• Experience with HA/DR strategies, infrastructure as code using Terraform or Ansible, scripting in Python, Bash, or Go, and Kafka observability tooling.
• Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States; new H-1B visa petitions cannot be sponsored.

Nice to have

• Confluent Certified Administrator or Developer credentials.
• Experience operating Kafka on Kubernetes with Strimzi or Confluent Operator.
• Exposure to managed Kafka services such as AWS MSK or Azure Event Hubs Kafka API.
• Familiarity with Flink, Spark Streaming, and streaming data governance and lineage.
