Network Installation Specialist - Journeyman (Fiber Optics)

Location: Remote with 90% travel for CONUS deployments and potentially OCONUS locations

What you will do

• Conduct technical site surveys and evaluate infrastructure readiness for network and system upgrades.
• Install, route, secure, and document fiber-optic and copper cabling, racks, ladder racks, patch panels, and cable-management systems.
• Perform fiber fusion splicing, connector termination, cable preparation, and DC power and grounding work.
• Install network devices, including IP routers and optical/IP switches, according to Department of War and industry implementation standards.
• Conduct and document OTDR, power-meter, and continuity testing to troubleshoot and repair fiber issues.
• Prepare Site Survey Reports, interpret SOWs and technical drawings, mentor technicians, and coordinate with the Project Manager, PMO, and Government POCs.

Requirements

• Active Secret Clearance is required to start; Top Secret is preferred.
• At least 5 years of experience, including experience in the construction, maintenance, or repair of networking or electronics equipment; a related technical education may be considered as an equivalent combination.
• Ability to travel 90% of the time on deployments across CONUS and potentially OCONUS locations.
• Proficiency with Telcordia standards, fiber-optic splicing, and fiber testing equipment, plus basic knowledge of communications installations.
• Experience installing network devices such as IP routers and optical/IP switches according to Department of War and industry standards.
• Experience with verbal, written, and graphic communications and customer service environments.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides for reporting.
• Ability to climb ladders, work in confined spaces, and lift equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.

Nice to have

• Outside Plant fiber and fiber-cabinet experience.
• Experience with equipment manufacturers such as Corning.
• Familiarity with network security products.
• Familiarity with Army installations.
