Principal Backend Engineer (Fintech)

Location: Remote from Paris, Berlin, Barcelona, or Milan

What you will do

• Map technical risks across high-volume transactions, search indexing, billing, and other Foundations systems, and lead architectural work to prevent future bottlenecks.
• Own complex, high-stakes technical initiatives spanning multiple engineering teams and involving Legal, Risk, Compliance, and company leadership.
• Define future platform investments, including granular permissions and AI-native integrations, and translate them into technical roadmaps.
• Raise the engineering bar through mentoring, coaching programs, documentation, and structured technical enablement.
• Connect business and customer needs with concrete backend plans and communicate technical decisions to engineers and executives.

Requirements

• Experience designing and scaling large-scale, high-volume backend systems such as transaction, search, indexing, or billing platforms.
• Experience leading complex, multi-team technical initiatives with measurable business impact.
• Ability to work autonomously in ambiguous environments, identify risks early, and propose initiatives independently.
• Experience multiplying engineering impact through mentoring programs, documentation, or technical enablement.
• Practical use of AI tools for architecture, prototyping, and technical communication.
