Senior Principal Software Engineer (Cybersecurity)

Location: Bellevue, Washington, USA; remote in the USA; or hybrid in San Jose, California, USA, 3 days per week.

Base salary: $217,000–$310,000 USD per year, excluding bonus, equity, and benefits.

What you will do

• Define the technical vision for a broad software domain and lead the architecture of major subsystems.
• Design and develop highly scalable, performant, and reliable distributed systems across cloud and hybrid environments.
• Review and approve critical design proposals with attention to performance, operability, and maintainability.
• Champion software design quality, observability, performance optimization, automation, and operational readiness.
• Mentor senior engineers and technical leaders while raising engineering standards.
• Serve as a lead Incident Commander, develop response playbooks, and conduct post-incident analyses.

Requirements

• 12+ years of software engineering experience, including significant experience architecting and delivering large-scale distributed systems.
• Strong experience designing scalable, high-performance, resilient systems in cloud-native and distributed environments.
• Deep expertise in at least one systems programming or backend language: Java, Go, C++, or Python.
• Foundational understanding of AI/ML technologies and experience leveraging, securing, or positioning AI-driven solutions.
• Experience with ITIL frameworks, incident data, high-stakes incident management, and 24/7 on-call rotations.
• Remote work is limited to the USA; the hybrid option requires working from the San Jose office 3 days per week.
