Associate Counsel (Insurance Defense)

Location: Remote, associated with West Orange, New Jersey, United States.

Salary: $118,900–$186,550 annual salary.

What you will do

• Defend lawsuits filed in New Jersey courts and handle other first-party insurance defense matters.
• Research laws and prepare legal briefs, opinions, and memoranda.
• Provide opinions on liability, damages, and case value for the Claims Department.
• Prepare and handle pleadings, motions, discovery, depositions, examinations before trial, and examinations under oath.
• Defend assigned matters through trial or dispositive hearings, as applicable.

Requirements

• 2 to 6+ years of litigation experience in insurance defense and/or personal injury is required.
• Juris Doctor degree is required.
• Admission to the New Jersey Bar is required.
• Must be licensed in good standing to practice law in New Jersey and meet and maintain applicable licensing and Continuing Legal Education requirements.
• Must be able to travel as required for trials, hearings, depositions, management meetings, and conferences.
• Must document files clearly, concisely, and professionally for customers, clients, co-workers, and other employees.
• Must follow complex instructions, resolve or facilitate conflict resolution, organize priorities, multitask, and learn and apply extensive technical and procedural information.

Nice to have

• Civil litigation experience.
• Insurance defense-related litigation experience.
• Professional communication skills in person, by telephone, and in written correspondence or email.
