Associate Counsel - West Orange, NJ (Remote)

Location: Remote, based in the United States; staff counsel office in West Orange, New Jersey. Travel is required for trials, hearings, depositions, management meetings, and conferences.

Annual salary: $118,900–$186,550.

What you will do

• Defend lawsuits filed in New Jersey courts and handle other first-party insurance defense matters.
• Research applicable laws and prepare legal briefs, opinions, and memoranda.
• Provide opinions to the Claims Department on liability, damages, and case value.
• Prepare and handle pleadings, motions, discovery, depositions, examinations before trial, and examinations under oath.
• Defend assigned matters at trial or dispositive hearings.

Requirements

• Juris Doctor degree required.
• Admission to the New Jersey Bar and an active license in good standing required.
• At least 2 years of litigation experience in insurance defense and/or personal injury required.
• Maintain applicable licensing requirements, including mandatory Continuing Legal Education requirements.
• Communicate clearly and professionally in written documentation, telephone conversations, and in-person interactions.
• Follow complex instructions, resolve conflicts, manage priorities, multitask, and learn substantial technical and procedural information.
