Staff Engineer (AI Platform): Building and operating shared AI and LLM platform infrastructure, developer tooling, and AI solutions for business functions with an accent on model routing, evaluation, cost optimisation, and secure integrations. Focus on designing distributed platform services, scaling coding agents and assistants, simplifying business processes for automation, and delivering measurable improvements in AI productivity and cost efficiency.
Location: Hybrid role based in the Cork office, Ireland
Salary: €85,000–€94,000 per year, plus equity and bonus opportunities.

What you will do
- Design, build, and operate the shared AI and LLM platform, including model routing, fallback strategies, API gateways, rate limiting, and multi-provider integrations.
- Optimise AI usage and costs through model selection, prompt and context efficiency, caching, and session-level controls.
- Build evaluation, observability, and monitoring systems for LLM-powered features and agents, including regression detection and usage analytics.
- Drive adoption of coding agents and assistants by creating internal tooling, guardrails, workflows, documentation, and training.
- Partner with Finance, Operations, Supply Chain, Marketing, Sales, People, and Legal to identify, simplify, and automate high-value business processes.
- Lead end-to-end initiatives, architecture and code reviews, debugging, mentoring, and measurement of AI productivity and cost-efficiency outcomes.
Requirements
- 8+ years of software engineering experience and a record of leading impactful technical initiatives.
- Production experience with LLM APIs such as Anthropic or OpenAI, including prompt and context design, tool use, and agentic workflows.
- Experience building or operating internal developer platforms, APIs, or shared infrastructure used by multiple teams.
- Strong architecture and design skills covering distributed systems, observability, secure API design, cost, performance, and reliability optimisation.
- Proficiency in Python, JavaScript, TypeScript, or similar platform and tooling languages.
- Experience with AI-assisted development tools, agent frameworks or MCP, platform strategy, and communication with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Nice to have
- Experience in business process automation, RPA, workflow tooling, or enterprise systems integration.
- CI/CD, DevOps, and automation experience applied to AI or ML workflows.
- Experience with AWS, cloud-native architectures, data or ML engineering, evaluation frameworks, or LLMOps.
- Experience across mobile, web, or embedded systems.
