Staff Engineer (AI)

Location: Cork, Ireland; hybrid role with an expectation to work on site at least 2 days per week in the Cork office. Eligibility to live and work in Ireland is required. Visa sponsorship and relocation support are not available.

Salary: €81K–€94K annually, plus bonus eligibility.

What you will do

• Design, build, and operate the shared AI and LLM platform, including model routing, fallback strategies, API gateways, rate limiting, multi-provider abstractions, evaluation, observability, and monitoring.
• Optimise organisation-wide AI costs and usage through model selection, prompt and context efficiency, caching, and session-level controls.
• Drive adoption of AI coding agents and assistants, building internal tooling, guardrails, agentic SDLC workflows, review processes, documentation, and training.
• Partner with Finance, Operations, Supply Chain, Marketing, Sales, People, and Legal to identify, simplify, and automate high-value business workflows.
• Design reusable AI enablement patterns, skills, agents, connectors, internal applications, templates, onboarding materials, office hours, and a cross-functional community of practice.
• Lead architecture and code reviews, debugging, mentorship, delivery tracking, and communication of technical direction and AI productivity and cost results.

Requirements

• 8+ years of software engineering experience and a demonstrated history of leading impactful technical initiatives.
• Hands-on production experience with LLM APIs such as Anthropic or OpenAI, including prompt and context design, tool use, and agentic workflows.
• Experience simplifying complex business or legacy processes into reliable, automatable workflows and continuously exploring new tools and techniques.
• Experience working directly with non-technical stakeholders to deliver technology that they adopt and continue using.
• Strong experience optimising cost, performance, and reliability in cloud or distributed systems and influencing business outcomes through technology decisions.
• Experience building or operating internal developer platforms, APIs, or shared infrastructure used by multiple teams.
• Practical experience with AI-assisted development tools and interest in scaling their use across an organisation.
• Strong design and architecture skills, including distributed systems, observability, secure API design, platform or enablement strategy, and delivery.
• Proficiency in Python, JavaScript, TypeScript, or similar platform and tooling languages; experience with agent frameworks, MCP, or similar tool-orchestration approaches.
• Strong communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences, including functional leadership presentations, plus a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent hands-on experience.

Nice to have

• Background in business process automation, RPA, workflow tooling, or enterprise systems integration across ERP, CRM, finance, or supply chain systems.
• Expertise with CI/CD, DevOps, and automation such as GitHub Actions applied to AI and ML workflows.
• Experience with cloud platforms, preferably AWS, and cloud-native architectures.
• Background in data or ML engineering, evaluation frameworks, or LLMOps.
• Experience across mobile, web, or embedded systems and understanding of AI integration with each.
