Java R&D Team Lead (Mobile Security)

Location: Munich, Germany; hybrid work with in-person leadership and collaboration in the Munich office

What you will do

• Lead a team of approximately 3–4 Java software engineers while remaining an active individual contributor.
• Design and evolve Java-based security products involving bytecode and compiler technology.
• Research code hardening, optimization, and obfuscation techniques to protect mobile applications from reverse engineering.
• Drive architectural decisions, debug technical issues, and support customers with complex integration challenges.
• Prioritize work, distribute tasks, remove blockers, and ensure timely, high-quality delivery.
• Mentor and coach engineers, set performance goals, provide feedback, and drive process improvements.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• At least 5 years of professional Java software engineering experience and previous experience leading or mentoring software engineers.
• Excellent Java programming skills and strong software engineering fundamentals.
• Experience with or a strong interest in software and mobile application security.
• Pragmatic, hands-on approach with strong communication and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent English communication skills and willingness to collaborate in person in the Munich office within a hybrid environment.

Nice to have

• Experience with low-level programming, compiler technology, code analysis, or optimization techniques.
• Android development experience and knowledge of Gradle, ProGuard, Android bytecode, or application internals.
• Experience with reverse-engineering tools such as JADX or apktool.
• Background in developer tools, security products, or static analysis solutions.
