Staff Software Engineer, Backend (Identity International)

Location: Remote UK

Base pay: £142,000–£190,000 per year

What you will do

• Set the team’s technical strategy on a year-long horizon and connect it to business-impacting projects.
• Collaborate with product management, design, and analytics throughout the product development lifecycle.
• Define and advocate for technical solutions and operational processes that multiply team effectiveness.
• Own service operations and availability, including monitoring, triage rotations, playbooks, policies, testing, alerting, and on-call support.
• Establish code review and design standards, and promote quality through technical writing and talks.
• Develop engineering talent through feedback, guidance, and leadership by example.

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience designing, developing, and launching backend systems at scale using Python or Kotlin.
• Extensive experience building highly available distributed systems with AWS, MySQL, Spark, and Kubernetes.
• Experience planning and delivering major features or system components, including deprecating existing functionality.
• Ability to work from low-level language idioms through large-scale system architecture and operate effectively in ambiguity.
• Strong track record of incorporating feedback from engineering and cross-functional peers.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills for collaboration with a global engineering team.
