Senior AI Software Engineer

Location: On-site in Herndon, Virginia; Denver, Colorado; or St. Louis, Missouri, United States

Salary: $155,000–$200,000 annually

What you will do

• Design, develop, prototype, and refine generative AI and LLM-powered applications using retrieval patterns, prompt and context engineering, and secure API integrations.
• Own agentic AI lifecycles, including model selection, agent design, tool and function calling, orchestration, evaluation, and deployment.
• Build maintainable, testable, and scalable software; conduct code reviews, establish technical patterns, and use AI-assisted development tools responsibly.
• Collaborate with data, software, cloud, and mission teams to deliver operational AI and automation solutions for federal clients.
• Automate secure deployments with Infrastructure as Code, CI/CD, containers, and cloud-native services.
• Monitor and optimize production AI systems, document implementations, mentor engineers, and contribute to reusable technical standards.

Requirements

• TS/SCI clearance required; CI poly preferred.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, AI/ML, or a related field.
• 7+ years of hands-on software engineering experience, including production or production-like AI/ML, generative AI, or LLM solutions.
• Experience with LLM applications, tool and function calling, model evaluation, prompt and context engineering, or retrieval-augmented generation.
• Experience with agentic AI frameworks or platforms such as Bedrock Agents, CrewAI, LangChain, LangGraph, Mastra, Strands, AgentCore, or Agent2Agent Protocol.
• Proficiency in TypeScript and Python, familiarity with major AI platforms and APIs, and experience with CI/CD pipelines such as GitLab CI.

Nice to have

• Experience with Terraform, OpenTofu, AWS CDK, or CloudFormation.
• Exposure to data engineering, data science, UI/UX, cloud engineering, or platform engineering.
• Knowledge of federal cybersecurity, RMF, FedRAMP, or related regulatory frameworks.
• Practical experimentation with emerging AI technologies and a focus on responsible innovation.
